BrokerReady Transforms Insurance SaaS Platform with VMware-to-AWS Migration and Generative AI Enablement
Overview
BrokerReady delivers IT solutions for insurance brokers across Australia and New Zealand, providing client and policy administration tools, cyber protection, data replication, disaster recovery, and workstation management. To enhance its platform capabilities and support the insurance industry’s growing demand for generative AI, BrokerReady partnered with AWS and Minfy Technologies to migrate from VMware-based, on-premises infrastructure to AWS. The company sought improved performance, reduced downtime, cost-effective infrastructure, and a foundation for future generative AI services. With support from Minfy and the AWS Migration Acceleration Program (MAP), BrokerReady modernized its platform and transitioned entirely to AWS in under four months.
Customer Challenges
Legacy Infrastructure & Downtime Issues
BrokerReady’s on-premises infrastructure—hosted in a third-party data center—experienced frequent downtime. Outdated CPUs were unable to support generative AI workloads, affecting performance and operational stability.
Rising Costs & VMware Licensing Concerns
Server licensing fees were projected to increase following Broadcom’s acquisition of VMware, leading to unsustainable operational costs. Additional costs came from double-handled tasks between BrokerReady’s internal IT team and the data center’s external engineers.
Need for Innovation & AI Readiness
As insurers increasingly turn to generative AI for decision-making and risk assessment, BrokerReady needed a modern, high-performance environment capable of supporting GPU-driven workloads and future AI initiatives.
Solution
Cloud Migration Strategy and Assessment
Minfy began by conducting a comprehensive analysis of BrokerReady’s on-premises VMware workloads and operational dependencies. As part of the AWS Migration Acceleration Program (MAP), Minfy evaluated performance requirements, infrastructure bottlenecks, and readiness for cloud adoption. These insights were used to architect AWS landing zones that aligned with best practices for security, governance, and reliability.
AWS Environment Build and Service Automation
Using the findings from the assessment, Minfy configured a secure and scalable AWS environment tailored to BrokerReady’s modernization needs. Minfy automated the setup of core AWS services, including Amazon EC2 G5 Instances to support GPU-driven generative AI workloads, and Amazon Elastic Block Store for scalable and resilient storage. This systematic automation reduced setup effort, ensured consistency, and accelerated the migration timeline.
Workload Migration and Modernization Execution
Minfy executed the migration of BrokerReady’s internal Linux-based N-central server to Amazon EC2 and transitioned PostgreSQL databases to Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL. Customer-facing IT environments—including Windows Active Directory and Windows SQL Server—were also migrated to AWS. To avoid service disruption, Minfy performed thorough testing and scheduled workload cutovers during non-office hours, ensuring users were fully operational in AWS the next morning.
Post-Migration Support and Generative AI Enablement
Following the migration, Minfy supported BrokerReady in adopting cloud-native services and stabilizing the modernized environment. Minfy also initiated proof-of-concept projects for generative AI using Amazon Bedrock, enabling BrokerReady to explore solutions that improve quoting efficiency, streamline risk assessments, and enhance broker engagement. This foundation allowed BrokerReady to begin integrating generative AI capabilities that were not feasible in their previous infrastructure.
Business Benefits
- Improved Platform Stability: Customers experienced markedly better server performance, with reduced downtime leading to fewer support calls.
- Higher IT Productivity: Gaining full control of the AWS environment increased IT productivity by 150%, with environment cloning and deployments completed in minutes instead of days.
- Lower Operational Overhead: Eliminating reliance on external data center engineers streamlined operations and reduced management effort.
- Faster, Cost-Efficient Migration: The full migration was completed in under four months, helping BrokerReady avoid rising VMware licensing costs and adopt a more scalable infrastructure.
- Accelerated Generative AI Adoption: With Minfy’s support, BrokerReady initiated Amazon Bedrock POCs, enabling faster progress toward AI-driven quoting, risk assessment, and customer engagement.
